My dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
It has always been a core belief of the Catholic Church to respect all life even in death. This tradition dates back to the early church and continues today. The Diocese of San Bernardino has had several cemeteries in its short history; Our Lady Queen of Peace is currently our only active cemetery. We are nestled in the hills of Colton, overlooking the San Bernardino mountains, Our Lady Queen of Peace and the All Souls Mausoleum and Chapel stand as a monument to all those who have gone before us.
The mission of our office is to grow the awareness of how consecrated ground is an extension of the Catholic Church. We spend a lifetime worshiping our Lord and receiving His Body and Precious Blood amongst believers in church. There is no better way to celebrate the vessel of our souls by resting in consecrated ground with other believers. When we return to visit our loved one’s resting place, it is also comforting to know that others who are present are praying in a similar way, with great faith in the Resurrection!
The office of Catholic Cemeteries is striving to help families understand and appreciate the greatest act of love which is pre-planning for the inevitable. There are many choices available to families. Please refer to the phone numbers and information located on our website that may help you make an informed decision.
It is my great hope that the Office of Catholic Cemeteries will become a resource for all who seek comfort as they journey with their grief. You can trust that we will strive to find relevant answers that address current needs and any new challenges dealing with end of life issues. I am excited to be a part of an office that brings people closer to the mystical Body of Christ.
Simply put, we are here for you, the ones who wait in joyful hope!
Sincerely yours in Christ,
Deacon John W. Barna
Director, Office of Catholic Cemeteries
